By assessing the key features of traditional chromium carbide overlay products, processes and even quench and tempered steels in successful abrasive wear applications, a discriminating production process was designed to produce a chromium carbide overlay that pushes beyond the application limitations of existing products.
It is well known that the key to increasing wear resistance and operating life to the customer in traditional chromium carbide alloys comes at a cost. Expensive alloying additions were considered the only method possible to generate the complex carbide deposits, necessary to provide the right microstructure to combat specific abrasive wear conditions…until now!
